When Sophie first proposed to travel around for a long time with only a backpack instead of the standard two-week beach honeymoon, Manolo thought she was crazy. But then he said: "Why not?" And so after their beautiful wedding on July 1, 2017, they packed up their appartment, put their stuff in storage and left for St. Petersburg with nothing but two 10-kg backpacks and a big hunger for adventure.

While driving from Persepolis to Yazd, we saw this small village from the road and decided to stop to check it out. Wandering through the abandoned alleys and houses, we imagined that this is how adventurers must have felt 500 years ago when discovering new continents and ruins of ancient civilizations! Locals from the nearby village told us the village was abandoned 70 years ago after a flood, though no one knew exactly how old the village itself was. #❤️iran #iran

😱😱😱 After 9 months, 2 days and some hours, our locura de miel is coming to an end and we will soon be back in the West. Freedom of speech! Free internet! Netflix! Vegetarian food! Nice wine! Drinkable water from the tap! Toilets with toilet paper! Working credit cards! No more looking like a hobo! Yes, it feels incredibly weird, as traveling has become our new normal, but there are also many things to look forward to. #locurademiel

The best way to discover Iran is for sure by renting your own car. We did a small road trip in Iran last week, and have been stumbling from adventure to adventure. Leaving the main tourist track, people are just so delighted to see foreigners visiting their country. Combine this with Iranian hospitality, and an ordinary road trip quickly becomes an epic adventure. More to come! #onlyiniran #❤️Iran #iran

Though for many people it is a highlight of their Iran trip, for us Persepolis was a bit of a disappointment. Somehow much less of the ancient capital remains than we had in mind. Expectations are always a bad thing. Pro tip: go to Persepolis during the week (so not on Thursday or Friday) and arrive early in the morning when the site opens. Not only will you beat the scorching sun, you will also have the entire place to yourself (which is quite magical) until around 9 am when the crowds arrive.

When you just keep looking and looking and looking... The Blue Mosque of Esfahan definitely belongs in the top 10 of prettiest buildings on earth. It is impressive to see how with only blue and yellow patterned tiles, somehow every corner of this mosque is different and more spectacular than the previous one. #❤️Iran #architecture
